As a first annual FCA-MAR sanctioned event to be held for the local Hospice center in nearby Chesapeake Bay region, the intimate function “Gilligan’s Island Ferrari Club Exotic Car Show to benefit the Hospice of Chesapeake” boasted quite a few spectacular Ferrari cars in addition to a fine assortment of high end luxury vehicles and other state of the art exotics. Show cars of note included a vintage Ferrari Dino, a Ford GT, and a Ferrari Super America.

Festival features included lively Cajun music, catered barbecue from local upscale restaurant Adam’s Ribs, live and silent auction components, and an award ceremony. Trophies were awarded based on fun Gilligan’s Island television show themes like “Professors Choice”, “the Mary Ann Award”, and the “Ginger Grant”.

The event, staged with Concours D’Elegance style green grass fields and cars parked showcase-style along winding blacktop areas under a heavy canopy of well manicured but predominantly indigenous Maryland trees, allowed guests to wander and roam the property freely.

Attendance numbers neared 200 guests, with 100% of the $45 per person ticket proceeds going to the Hospice Center to help fund their programming. Car show attendants were also treated to imported beer, bubbling champagne, and Cohiba cigars (all compliments of the gracious hosts), with visitors able to browse through cars and on site vendor art.

Craftsmen Developers and the Venue History: Going Green

Craftsmen Developers is a green land development firm based in Glen Burnie, Maryland. A community minded company, owner and company president Dennis Gilligan believes “Going Green” begins with, “a green attitude…. simple things, like recycling paper or more complex matters like reshaping communities to minimize runoff and maximize green space.”

Craftsmen Developers leadership instills a “Going Green” culture throughout the company.  Heading forward into the 21st century, son Coner Gilligan, Vice President, is often seen working closely with father Dennis and placed in charge of many of the forward thinking land development projects.  “The culture of caring for the environment is not just a family business approach; we’re committed to thinking multi-generational when it comes to  building in such a way that is environmentally friendly, elevates employee and contractor sensitivity towards the environment, and fosters sustainable development designs in its projects…” says the young up and coming and very professional prodigy.

According to the Gilligans, “The Company’s land designs attempt to maximize porous surfaces and limit disturbed areas. They direct civil engineers and consult with local jurisdictions to allow for more flexible “Green Designs”… Craftsmen Developers believes strongly that it can and will improve the environment by creating “Green Neighborhoods”.

As a visitor to their Maryland home and private property for any exotic car show, it becomes immediately apparent that this is a family in which all the business partners practice what they preach. All the elements of the main house, guest houses, garages, and outlying buildings on the Gilligan estate are laid out in harmony with the coastal wildlife and plants that spare the space with the Gilligan family. Combining modern features with reclaimed wood and stone left over from local restoration projects, the site boasts many of the elemental architectural design features of a Frank Lloyd Wright home while adding curved window lines and built in interior artistic elements that blend seamlessly with the rounded swells of the property’s Chesapeake Bay coast. As a result, the effect is one that claims not only function but superlative form balanced with the natural elements surrounding — making the 5 acre residence a great place to host a fund raiser or private party.

Future Gilligans Island Events and Ferrari Car Shows

As the event was such a resounding success with guests, get your 2010 daybooks and pens ready. The Gilligans’ expect to set the date for next years and make a public announcement about their intention to again support the Hospice charity some time before the 2009 4th of July celebrations.

The early word from the FCA-MAR board is that they fully expect to support asking the Ferrari Club of American to again lend it’s supporting sanction blessing to the future annual events that will undoubtedly help the guests of the Hospice rest easier thanks to the gracious hospitality provided by the Gilligans and diverse group of 2009 festival attendants.

Until that time, the FCA-MAR group plans to be very busy, with many car shows, special group outings, and road galleries planned throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The Ferrari Club is an organization that prides itself on being a social organization committed to the promotion of the Ferrari brand and working to help all members of each local community meet their needs. As such, the organization often sponsors worthwhile charities that actively affect their own members residential communities like the Hospice Center of the Chesapeake and the upcoming Children’s Guild “Viva Italia 2009: Concours D’Elegance” scheduled to happen in September of 2009 at the Inner Harbor of Downtown Baltimore’s Harbor East.

Baltimore Ravens Celebrity Newlyweds Dan Wilcox and Shauna Wilcox Host 2008 “Giving in Style” E.M.P.O.W.E.R.M.E.N.T. Minds Benefit at Maserati of Baltimore

Dan & Shauna Wilcox

Baltimore Newlyweds: Daniel & Shauna (Chin) Wilcox

Get to Know Dan and Shauna Wilcox Tuesday December 16, 2008 from 6:30-10:00pm at Maserati of Baltimore

Baltimore Ravens fans listen up. Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 is your night to party in style and do some “Holiday Right”.

Newlywed Baltimore power couple Dan and Shauna Wilcox are hosting a private party and fashion gala with friends from M.O.B. Exotics. Raising money for their newly founded Non-Profit organization “E.M.P.O.W.E.R.M.E.N.T. Minds“, these new local charm city stars have planned a spectacular night. Working on behalf of the foundation, the Wilcox family is striving to make a positive impact on our local world by helping underprivileged inner city children in the Baltimore community.

“Giving in Style” Event Schedule

  • 6:30-7:30 Red Carpet Guest Reception
  • 7:30-8:30 Cocktails and Light Appetizers from Ruth’s Chris in the M.O.B. Exotics Gallery; Smyth “Silver and Gold Exchange”
  • 8:30-9:00 Race Shop General Admission and VIP Seating
  • 9:00-11:00 Celebrity Fashion Show; Live Auction; Entertainment
  • 11:00-11:30 Last Call; Gift Bag Delivery in the Maserati of Baltimore Showroom

Sponsors for this special Christmas and New Year “Silver and Gold” gathering epitomize the character of the event. Attendees can expect to be dazzled by Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini displays from new friends Jack and Kae Davis of M.O.B. Exotics (of course), but they will also get a chance to see the latest in Italian motorcycles with Ducati and Moto Guzzi bikes on display from old friend Speed Millet of  Speed’s Cycle.

To add a bit of sparkle and shine, Mike Rudden from Motoart plans to have his aeronautical art pieces on display. Wayne Nicolette from Xhibitz will be lending a splash of pizzaz to create the backdrop for the red carpet guests with a jumping fountain display that will remind guests of Walt Disney’s EPCOT in Kissimmee, Florida.

Thanks to famous Baltimore City Inner Harbor and Ravens favorite restaurant Ruth’s Chris, guests will enjoy a selection of lite-fare appetizers. If you plan to have dinner before the event, you will be comfortable throughout the evening; but don’t fear that this restaurant will let you go hungry for long–they’ll be handing out gift cards to VIP and paid general admission guests throughout the evening.

Vitamin Water is a generous donor; they will be providing donated refreshments to help the charity raise money throughout the evening. With a special livation menu (and non-alcoholic substitution) cocktail menu available, the cash bar proceeds will be reverting to the foundation.  Ensuring that guests continue to remember that the real reason we are celebrating is to help raise money for the E.M.P.O.W.E.R.M.E.N.T. Minds charity–not only will the drinks be festive but also will help lend a sophisticated philanthropic aura to the socially aesthetic atmosphere of party mingling.

Tickets to this special event are still available, though space is limited and V.I.P. Seating is limited. Visit to purchase your tickets online.

Although this is a private party function, general admission tickets are available at $50 per seat; standing room only tickets will be available on the night of the event for an additional fee TBD–but early RSVP ticket purchase confirmations are encouraged (as the event is expected to sell out several days early).

Are you a V.I.P. for $83?

If you are interested in a front row (or close to the show) seat, Maserati of Baltimore’s Alfred Ramos says, “V.I.P. Admission price is a sweet holiday treat guaranteeing you seats for the fashion show and entertainment portion of the evening–only $83 per person.” [For anyone not from the Baltimore Washington DC area wondering, Dan Wilcox jersey number is eighty-three.]

Both admission prices will include a gift bag for each ticket holder at the end of the evening, so remember to keep your ticket identification handy. Dan and Shauna plan to distribute gift bags from a high tech sleigh–using a Maserati Quattroporte as the distribution gifting suite display. Guests can relax and shop in the Maserati Boutique while in line to collect their treats and goodies or browse the showroom and daydream about the “Playing in Traffic” scenes.

The last few pieces of this ultra-glam event should have all guests bringing a little something. Smyth Jewelers, a main sponsor of the event, will have a booth onsite and will be buying old or broken pieces of gold and silver jewelry from guests–and based on weight, will be issuing guests a high exchange rate. Bring your sparkling bits and baubles you are no longer using and get a check back from Smyth immediately.

What will you do with the newfound money? Hopefully, bidding on one of the Live Auction items for sale intermittently throughout the show–or purchasing raffle tickets to distribute among the silent bid “Greek Auction” items. One ticket for each silent auction gift will be the lucky winner. Ticket blocks purchased in amounts of $250.00 or more are eligible for a tax deduction voucher from the charity.
