Ferrari lovers head out for Gilligan’s Island 2009 Special Event Charity Fund Raiser and Car Show

Gilligan’s Island

Charity Event benefiting the Chesapeake Bay Hospice Center

Saturday, June 6 (11:00 – 5:00pm)

[Rain Date: Sunday, June 7]

Members and friends of the Ferrari Club of the Mid-Atlantic region will be gathering this Saturday June 6, 2009 [or Sunday June 7, 2009 if rain sets in] for a very special special afternoon car show event.

Ferrari Dino will be on display at the Gilligan's Island 2009 Event

Ferrari Dino will be on display at the Gilligan's Island 2009 Event

Rallying at the Maryland waterfront estate of Dennis and Peggy Gilligan, car owners from all over the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic region will be showcasing more than 50 privileged Ferraris, all pristine and displayed Concours D’Elegance style at this second annual summer kick-off party event. There’s more news however, as the Italianizzato Club muscle has been hard at work again. Just this week, host Dennis Gilligan has expressly agreed to extend the invitation for other brands of exotic cars to plan a day trip down to visit the estate and showcase their vehicles. That’s big news for owners of other marquees like Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and custom American muscle classics and exotics like the Ford GT. You see, originally, the rumor spread that Ferrari club guys were not going to allow non-owners to visit or other car models on the private acres if we tried to attend.

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione will be on display

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione will be on display

What did Dennis Gilligan say when he heard that other exotic car club members were not being included in the Ferrari event invitation? “Are you kidding? My place is huge. Everyone I know in the Ferrari club is friendly and loves all kinds of cars. Everybody is welcome.” The Gilligan family says, “Bring your Exotic Car (or boat for that matter as dock slips/anchorage are available) and share our home and pool overlooking Rock Creek.  Reservations [on the main field] will be limited to the first 75 Exotic Cars and there is room to display 75 more [for a total of 150 cars on display next year].” Dennis also indicated that there is ample parking for all methods of transportation on his land. All he’s asked is that the Ferrari field, as a Ferrari club sanctioned event, exotic or show cars, and daily driver commuter parking be kept separate for the purpose of photography and creating ambiance. See how easy it is to attend an FCA-MAR event? [Tisk, tisk to those non-affiliated folks spreading silly exclusionary gossip in the chat rooms and by private messages on forums.] Included in the cost of admission is a catered lunch by Annapolis favorite barbecue restaurant Adam’s Ribs. Cost of entry includes beverages, “All the sodas and beer your can drink” says Dennis (sorry kids — 21 and up on the alcoholic beverages and yes, ID will be checked). The cost, just $45.00 per person, is fully tax deductible with 100% of the proceeds provided to the Hospice of the Chesapeake. You do not need to own or be showing an exotic car to participate in this event. All guests over the age of 16 are welcome; please contact the event host to make special arrangements for wheelchair or handicapped participants.

Late car show entries should immediately email the EXOTIC CAR EXAMINER at to express interest in joining the show this weekend (and include .jpg photos of their car along with make, model, year, and other pertinent contact details for the Gilligans to help be prepared for post-event coverage).

Please email Dennis Gilligan ( or call 410-320-5878 for more information about the Gilligan’s Island Event, including for assistance with directions.

2009 2010 Calendar updates for Concours D’Elegance Car Shows across United States encourage car lovers to DEFY recession and travel cross continental

Maserati Granturismo S 2008 at Viva Italia Concours D'Elegance

Passion: it’s a word that holds serious meaning in the auto industry. To heck with rising gas costs, poor fuel mileage, and bad for the environment gas guzzling antiquated technology. Americans are still wildly in love with exotic car, classic car, and collectible car models. Manufactured from all 20th and 21st century global auto manufacturers, the cars on display at Concours D’Elegance special events and charity benefits represent the passion of more than 100 years of human ingenuity.

Car lovers are not simply in love with their favorite cars; they are deeply passionate about sharing their fond appreciation of the engineering marvels with other members of the car showcase community (and product loyalty and genuine brand enthusiasm should never be underestimated). If you are looking to see car guys and women driving enthusiasts flocked together like wild and woolly happy sheep at one high horsepower wild oats location, look no further than the next Concours D’Elegance event coming up in your community or nearby region…

“Daffodil Photos” makes a great seasonal Spring drive activity; Summer yellow flowers next!

Daffodils Photography and Spring Driving in the Baltimore Region

What do daffodils have to to with exotic cars, convertible tops, and driving? We’re not talking about Girls Gone Wild when we say “top down”; we’re talking about men, women, and children being able to enjoy the bright blue skies and sunny outdoor activity weather that inspire us to drive our favorite convertible in the warm weather seasons simply for fun, pleasure, and travel adventure.

It’s the end of Spring and Americans are getting ready for Summer. Many exotic car drivers have already had their favorite exotic auto and sports car class pets out for a spin. They travel around the local highways, byways, and countryside to exercise their pleasure car’s engines and to breathe a little fresh air and  have fun recreation activities outdoors with the motor running. My springtime FREE activity advice for travelers in warm climates and weather is to snap a picture of the wonders of nature wherever you find yourself stopping along the road. Create your own favorite Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini highway mile marker images from places you have been as ways to remind you who you are and where you want to go…

Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini cars will all be on display and included in the driving portion of the day trip event, again bringing all the various car club chapters in and around the Baltimore Washington and Northern Virginia regions together to celebrate all things Italian. Cars will rally for a road excursion from the LaGrange Winery in Haymarket, Virginia.

The Raduna Primavera event is a special one on the Eastern Seaboard.

ferrari at dcfiatsSponsored by the DC Fiat group, they are again getting ready to celebrate the coming of summer with a DC Metro [Northern VA] region road rally tour. The DC Fiat group says, “The starting point is the Winery at Lagrange near Haymarket, Virginia. After a quick driver’s meeting, cars will embark on a journey taking them on some of northern Virginia’s finest back roads. Then it’s across the Potomac and up onto the twisty roads of Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains with a lunchtime finish at Thurmont’s Cozy Restaurant.”

A map to the winery starting point may be found HERE.

According to the car club’s representatives, pricing for participation is $25 per person (which includes a buffet lunch at the Cozy). As such, one can expect the entry fee to be per guest rather than per carload. As a family oriented event, pre-teen children are free. Registration is already open and going strong. Keep in mind there will be a $20 late fee added to registrations received after May, 29th, 2009 so be sure to have your payment and registration in to the group organizers early. Yes, the club does offer online registration options (which you can access by clicking HERE).

If you have photos to share from the 2009 Raduno Primavera or any past all Italian car tour or shows, please email Kae Davis will be more than happy to share as many as we can in a slideshow for the Exotic Car Examiner column (to help you promote not only your exotic car brand but also to help past or future participants find information about your car club and automobile event).

Other rules and restrictions include the following special event notes: 1. Italian cars only — through they like and appreciate other car brands, their racing hearts on this day seek to include only the lovely cars of Italy. Men and women drivers equally welcome. 2. Participating vehicles must be street legal and fully insured. Always a given at any road rally for any car marquee club activity, it is amazing but some people do have a fantasy of driving their non-street legal machines around the winding and lush view roads of our country. 3. Drivers are expected to obey all traffic laws and posted speed limits. Please note that radar detectors are illegal in the state of Virginia and traffic cameras are now posted throughout the region (targeting intersection crossing violators, mainly). There are also many speed traps,  so pace yourself politely and accordingly to keep on the favored side of any state troopers, sheriffs, or police working the area for the purpose of road safety. 4. The supporting clubs and organizers are not responsible for the actions of participants. [That means play nice with other cars and community neighbors you encounter while driving through the neighborhoods of the beautiful rural and suburban Northern Virginia region just miles away from our nations capital Washington DC.]

La Dolce Vita National Event: Automobili at Black Horse Friday August 14, 2009 Press Release for California Car Show Road Trip Opportunity

La Dolce Vita Automobili at Black Horse to Deliver Elegant Event for Car Owners and Enthusiasts

“Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course to Once Again Host Monterey Car Week Event on Greens”

AUBURN, WASHINGTON. (March 05, 2009) – La Dolce Vita-Automobili at Black Horse will be held Friday, August 14, 2009 on the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California. Founding Partner Kerry McMullen shares, “When we learned a former Italian car event was no longer going to be held at this incredible site, we immediately approached the owners who were excited to host a quality event”.

La Dolce Vita promises a “back to our roots” approach to displaying Italian cars and motorcycles on the green. “This will be an enthusiast’s event organized by enthusiasts”, notes Founding Partner Jerry Kaye. McMullen and Kaye formed Monterey Bay Concours LLC and established La Dolce Vita in an effort to share their passion for Italian cars with others and to create a comfortable “car guy” environment that is owner-centric.

McMullen is President and CEO of MIE Corporation, the largest Maserati parts supply and technical network in the world. He also operates Maserati Club International with 2000 members worldwide. Kaye is no stranger to Italian car events and is a Founding Partner of La Belle Macchine d’ Italia. Held each year in the Poconos, the event attracts a large number of enthusiasts from all over the world.

Both own their fair share of Italian automotive machinery. McMullen personally owns three Maserati cars and Kaye owns a beautiful collection of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and Rolls-Royce cars. La Dolce Vita has significant support from members of the Italian car community.

bayonet-and-black-horse-golf-course-in-monterey-bayTo date, Alfa Romeo, Fiat/Lancia, Maserati, DeTomaso and several other Italian car clubs are excited for the new event and anxious to resume the annual trek to Black Horse. Numerous Ferrari and Lamborghini owners from around the country have expressed interest in displaying at the event as well.

Niche media partners, Garage Style Magazine and speak to the serious enthusiast and it is this vein that runs thick through the event. “We want car owners and enthusiasts to enjoy each other’s cars and company in a relaxed and friendly environment, this will not be a carnival”, notes McMullen.

The event is encouraging people to “come see what’s new” at Black Horse while picnicking amidst live music and chatting with old and new friends. When asked why the team chose Black Horse as the site of La Dolce Vita, Kaye observes, “Black Horse is experienced at hosting an event of this magnitude and knows how to treat car owners properly.

The venue has outstanding accessibility with multiple ingress and egress compared to most other golf courses and resorts on the peninsula”. Logistics on this scale do not come without a price tag and a great deal has been invested to assure affective parking and crowd control procedures. “We have a system in place that offers safe and secure parking for spectators that will also bring them to the main entrance in a timely fashion without aggravation”, says McMullen.

While the event is focused on Italian cars, featured marque cars from other Monterey Car Week events will be welcomed with open arms to a special display section at the event. “We want people to have choices. There are enough cars and enthusiasts on the Monterey Peninsula each August to support multiple events that will offset unbearable crowds”, says Kaye.

Friendly rates have been established for entrants and spectators and the event will admit ages 17 and under free of charge with an adult. “We are encouraging families to visit our event as it’s very important to us to foster education of and passion for automobiles with future generations”, remarks McMullen.

Charitable aspects and special features will be announced soon.

Plan on attending the inaugural event to see what special attractions are planned. Be part of something special so you can say you were there at the beginning.

December 30, 2008 Holiday Tour of Lights Night Ride and Dine to Christopher Daniel Restaurant with Maserati of Baltimore

joppa_road_baltimore-county_holiday_lightsWith 2008 coming almost too quickly to a close, Maserati of Baltimore Staff and M.O.B. Exotics friends finally found a night with clear weather and organized their holiday “Ride and Dine”, this time heading out for a Holiday Light tour and a delicious late night relaxing bite at local gourmet hangout Christopher Daniel restaurant back home in Timonium, Maryland.

Breathtaking was the Word of the Night

Cold but above freezing temperatures with clear and bright quarter moon skies gave the team the perfect street conditions for an after dark rally December 30th, 2008. A long busy day helped all participants build an appetite with the two hour light tour relaxing everyone perfectly before dining at local gourmet bistro and Timonium West Padonia road casual restaurant and bar favorite Christopher Daniel (

Miracle on 34th Street Baltimore Style

34th_street_auto_christmas_light_fun_displayLeaving from Maserati of Baltimore, the group headed down I-83 to see the twinkling and locally famous light tour in Hamden.

Residents of the 34th street area have been decorating as a group since 1947, and in 2008 the tradition did not disappoint. Affectionately known as the best “tacky light tour” in town, the neighborhood appeared as magical to local adult and child visitors as a trip to Walt Disney World–without the holiday travel headaches and for a more friendly and cost effective price (free to the public, charity and light strand donations welcomed).

Behind the Scenes in Baltimore County

baltimore_neighborhoods_christmas_lightsFollowing guided routes led by long time Baltimore resident and Maserati of Baltimore Guest Services team Tom and Diane Beckman, the exotic cars from Maserati of Baltimore toured the streets and neighborhoods of Baltimore county sparkling and nice.

Thanks to all the heads up from Maserati of Baltimore clients who like to spend time on the road driving for pleasure, we were able to find some of the best decorated homes around the area off the beaten path. Maryland residents don’t play around when it comes to their Christmas lights. Despite rising energy costs through BGE, everywhere we went we saw holiday houses filled with good will, love, and festive spirit. All were lit for neighbors pleasure–with hardly a house seeming to be missing any touch of decoration on this particular star studded night.

Estate Homes Pretty as a Picture on A Cold Winter’s Night

Knowing the back roads and having mapped out a road rally tour of neighborhoods decorated in a way sure to delight, the group enjoyed viewing many new enclaves of communities around town. What was in store for drivers and passengers was a Holiday Parade of Homes; doing Maryland proud, these homeowners went all out to make sure their houses and streets look bright. Here’s a few of our favorites homes “Better Homes and Gardens” worthy decoration photos from this very special holiday “Play in Traffic” get together on the perfect for driving December night:

maserati_of_baltimore_at_christopher_daniel_restaurant_timoniumTasty comfort food favorite side dishes include Lobster Macaroni and Cheese, Sweet Potato Fries, and Potatoes Au Gratin. Serving an assortment of soups, salads, seafood, steaks, and gourmet fare specialties, the restaurant is sure to have something on the menu to please a group, single, or couple on any given night. Add an ample wine list, full bar, easy parking, and a friendly wait staff, and we’re proud to report they treat Maserati of Baltimore customers and staff right.
